Government blow as uk medical sales firms leave
The government has suffered another blow as UK medical sales firms line up to leave the UK due to it's unfriendly business tax system.
I number of high profile firms outside the pharmaceutical industry had already made the move, such as google UK, yahoo and Henderson the finance company with a 74 year UK history.
Shire and Proctor and Gamble have been the first medical sales firms to announce their intention to move, with Shire stating the main reason as being a reduction in business taxes from 28% in the UK to 12.5% in Ireland. With many UK pharmaceuticals already having moved their manufacturing and R & D to Asia for cheaper labour, all that will be left in the UK will be there medical sales jobs.
It's a political hot potato for a government that has been determined to persuade it's public that it's business tax system is highly competitive. Looking at these companies and their decisions, the evidence is that clearly it is not. The pharmaceutical industry in the UK has always been a jewel in the crown, to see it leaving bit by bit to move overseas is a sad sight for all.
