Healthcare system needs to allow people to top up, Clegg.
Nick Clegg of the Liberal Democrat party has suggested that patients should be allow to top up on the healthcare they receive from the NHS.
This is not a knew debate in parliament. Resources in the NHS have not been able to match the increasing demand for some years. However, it has simply been a political hot potato to suggest that any elements of the healthcare system should become private affairs.
Ultimately something will have to change. It doesn't take a college maths graduate to realise that increasing demand and diminishing resource is not something which can be maintained. There would be a serious upside if the government were to accept this as valid solution. Every patient that opted for more expensive treatment privately would free up finds that they would otherwise have used on the NHS.
It would also be good news for people in Healthcare sales industries who in recent years have faced increasing barriers from 'black and white' decisions as to what can and can't be used. If a partial privatisation occurred, then decisions to prevent the NHS use of some drugs may be less of blow to healthcare companies.
