Nurse of the year chooses to leave the NHS
A high profile nurse who one the nurse of the year awatd only last year has quit her NHS nursing job.
Justine Whitaker had only won the nurse of the year award in 2007 for outstanding services to nursing, yet now she has wolked out of her nurse position in favour of a lecturing job.
A nurse for many years, Justine describes a real passion for being a nurse, but explained that in the light of government reforms, she was spending less and less times with patients and more time administrating, which was very frustrating.
The government have only recently made a fuss over moral being 'higher than ever' for NHS staff making the timing of this particularly awkward for them. Justine explains that she actually agrees with the need for reforms, but believes the people making decisions are just too far away from the front line to understand the true impact on day to day working with patients.
