Releif for 8000 medical graduates
A house of Lords ruling has brought relief to 8000 international medical graduates in the UK.
Had the decision gone the other way the training positions of up to 8000 medical graduates would have been in doubt. Now, the decision not only means that the present graduates remain in the training positions, but also there will be much stringer competition for training positions for Uk medical graduates.
The decision has been welcomed by the British Association of Physicians of Indian origin who had claimed that the original decision by the Health secretary to favour UK applicants was discriminatory. A claim which has now bee upheld by the House of Lords.
It is estimated that where previously there had been a shortage of UK medical graduates, now UK candidates will find themselves competing with up to 3 other people.
